The GSBI is an official partner of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP)

The GSBI works with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to promote an assessment of global soil biodiversity.

The 14th Conference of the Parties (COP14) of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity will meet in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, 17-29 November 2018, and is scheduled to discuss — among other issues — the call for a global soil biodiversity assessment (For more details click here — see pages 40-41, sections 21, 22, 23b)

In September 2018, the GSBI requested actions from the Intergovernmental Science‑Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) regarding the integration of soil biodiversity into ongoing assessments of biological diversity, and the promotion of a global assessment of soil biodiversity.

The European Commission Joint Research Center is a founding organization of the GSBI, and collaborated with the GSBI to produce the Global Soil Biodiversity Atlas (May, 2016)
